Role Overview: Senior HR Strategist (Volunteer)
As a Senior HR Strategist, you will play a pivotal role in shaping how our volunteer-powered organization attracts, engages, and supports its people. This is a strategic volunteer leadership position focused on co-creating human-centered HR solutions that enable our teams to drive systemic change. You will tackle key HR challenges – from recruiting mission-aligned talent and implementing efficient HR systems to enhancing volunteer engagement – all through a people-first, innovative approach. Key Responsibilities
In this volunteer position, you will co-lead and advise on strategic HR initiatives that strengthen CrowdDoing’s capacity. Key areas of impact include:
- Executive Recruiting & Talent Acquisition: Spearhead efforts to attract and onboard high-caliber volunteers for senior and specialized roles. Develop talent acquisition strategies and partnerships (e.g. outreach, pipelines, referrals) to build a steady influx of skilled, mission-driven volunteers.
- HRIS Implementation & Process Optimization: Co-lead the selection and implementation of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) or other HR tech tools to streamline volunteer management (from onboarding to tracking engagement). Convert manual HR processes into automated, scalable solutions that improve efficiency and data insights.
- Volunteer Engagement & Retention: Design and roll out innovative programs to enrich the volunteer experience. This includes improving onboarding and training, creating recognition and reward initiatives, gathering feedback, and fostering a supportive, inclusive culture to boost volunteer satisfaction and retention.
- Strategic HR Advisory: Collaborate with CrowdDoing’s leadership and HR team to identify people-related needs and craft strategies to meet them. Provide expert advice on HR best practices, organizational development, and change management in a virtual, multicultural environment. Ensure all HR policies and practices are human-centered, inclusive, and aligned with our social impact values.
- Mentorship & Team Development: Mentor other HR volunteers and project leaders in areas like effective recruitment, volunteer management, conflict resolution, and leadership development. Help build HR team capacity by sharing knowledge and fostering a continuous learning mindset.

Ideal Candidate Profile
We are looking for an experienced HR professional who is passionate about leveraging their skills for a greater cause. The ideal volunteer candidate has:
- Extensive HR Experience: A strong background in human resources (e.g. HR business partner, HR manager/director, people operations, or talent management). Experience with strategic HR planning, recruiting, or HRIS implementation is highly valued.
- Strategic & Innovative Mindset: Big-picture thinking with the ability to design forward-looking HR solutions. You’re a problem solver who can translate organizational goals into actionable HR initiatives, and you stay current on modern HR practices.
- Adaptability: Comfortable navigating ambiguity and change in a growing, all-volunteer organization. Agile in adjusting strategies and policies to fit a dynamic, virtual environment.
- Human-Centered Approach: A people-first philosophy in HR. Empathy and emotional intelligence to understand volunteer needs, and a commitment to creating inclusive, supportive experiences for a diverse team.
- Leadership & Collaboration Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Able to influence and collaborate with cross-functional teams and leaders. Experience in mentoring or coaching others is a plus.
