Job summary

Ottawa County is seeking a senior HR professional to oversee the Human Resources Department and support the HR Director in planning and implementing policies, programs, and payroll administration. The role drives compliance with federal and state laws while shaping talent strategies to attract and retain a qualified workforce.

The position is full-time, based at the Fillmore Complex in West Olive, MI, with standard hours Mon-Fri and occasional travel to other county locations.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of federal and state employment statutes and labor law.
• Experience designing or supporting leadership development programs.
• Strong understanding of county benefit manuals and CBAs.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily HR operations and ensure policy compliance.
• Supervise HR staff, assign work, and support development.
• Assist in planning and implementing countywide HR strategies.
• Develop policies to attract and motivate employees.
• Support leadership development initiatives and succession planning.
• Advise department heads on employee relations and performance.
• Participate in labor relations and contract interpretation.
• Ensure compliance with laws and prepare HR reports.
