Job summary

Deacon Recruiting in San Antonio, TX is hiring a Senior HR Generalist to build and lead the first dedicated HR function for a growing commercial construction organization. You will partner with executive leadership to shape culture, compliance, and people strategy, with broad ownership of employee relations, benefits, policies, onboarding and HR operations.

This on-site role offers the chance to create scalable HR processes and infrastructure that support rapid growth.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of progressive HR Generalist experience
• Strong knowledge of employee relations, employment law, compliance, benefits administration
• Experience conducting HR audits, maintaining compliant documentation, and developing policies and procedures
• Excellent communication, relationship-building, conflict resolution, and organizational skills

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary HR partner for employees and managers on employee relations, coaching, performance management, and workplace concerns
• Lead HR compliance efforts, audits, policy development, handbook updates, documentation practices, and personnel records management
• Administer employee benefits, leave programs, accommodations, and HRIS data while supporting payroll processes
• Manage onboarding, orientation, performance review programs, and employee engagement initiatives
• Partner with leadership to improve HR processes, strengthen culture, support hiring activities, and drive organizational effectiveness

YOUR TYPICAL DAY…

• Serve as the primary HR partner for employees and managers on employee relations, coaching, performance management, and workplace concerns

YOU HAVE / BACKGROUND PROFILE…

• 6+ years of progressive Human Resources Generalist experience, with 10+ years preferred
• Strong knowledge of employee relations, employment law, compliance, benefits administration, and HR best practices
• Experience conducting HR audits, maintaining compliant documentation, and developing policies and procedures
• Excellent communication, relationship-building, conflict resolution, and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

EXTRA CREDIT / NICE TO HAVES…

• SPHR certification strongly preferred (PHR or SHRM-SCP also considered)
• Construction, skilled trades, or project-based industry experience
• Experience building HR infrastructure or supporting a growing organization through process improvements
