Job summary

General Dynamics Information Technology, Inc. (GDIT) is seeking an HPC Engineer to support a Scientific Computing team in Rockville, MD.

The role centers on administering Linux-based HPC systems, software, and user services for researchers, focusing on installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of module environments. Responsibilities include datacenter operations, hardware deployment, job scheduling, and collaboration with researchers to optimize workloads.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, scientific computing, bioinformatics, or a related field with 5+ years of experience.
• Experience supporting Linux systems in HPC/research environments.
• Familiarity with datacenter hardware and basic networking is preferred.
• Experience installing and supporting scientific apps, compilers, libraries, and module systems.
• Knowledge of Slurm and shared compute environments; strong scripting (Bash/Python).

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux-based HPC infrastructure and storage.
• Deploy, configure, monitor, and lifecycle manage HPC hardware and OS components.
• Assist with datacenter activities including hardware configuration and deployments.
• Monitor system health, diagnose performance issues, ensure reliability and security.
• Support job schedulers, resource management, and compute/storage networking issues.
• Collaborate to plan upgrades and implement new HPC technologies.
• Install and troubleshoot scientific software, compilers, libraries, and module environments.
• Develop operational docs and automation scripts for HPC operations.
• Work with scientific staff to resolve infrastructure issues impacting workflows.
