Job summary

IonQ, Inc. is seeking an HPC Cluster Engineer to join the Infrastructure Team. You will design, build, and maintain an HPC platform spanning on-premises and cloud clusters, developing automation tooling and configuring infrastructure at scale to support quantum research and applications.

You will work with researchers and developers to optimize workloads, manage HPC resources, and deploy with orchestration tools, GPUs, and containers across environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years working with Linux systems on HPC clusters, including cluster management, performance tuning, and resource management.
• Familiarity with HPC workload schedulers such as Slurm, PBS, or Grid Engine.
• Comfort with Git or other version control systems for managing source code and configurations.
• Proficiency with Python, Go, and Bash.
• Experience with Ansible or other configuration-management tools.
• Experience delivering projects in fast-moving environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and operate HPC systems for quantum simulations and applications.
• Develop automation and tooling for configuring Linux systems on-premises and in the cloud.
• Support researchers and software developers running simulations and workloads.
• Build relationships with stakeholders across teams handling diverse workloads.
• Self-manage projects, goals, and deadlines; identify and mitigate risks.
• Grow into a go-to resource for HPC workload automation within IonQ.
