Job summary

Safety Management Group, LLC (SMG) is seeking a Local Safety Director for our Houston, Texas operations. The role leads HSE programs, audits, and incident investigations to ensure alignment with safety policies and regulatory requirements.

You will partner with project management and site leadership to integrate safety into daily operations, review contractor safety plans, and drive continuous improvement through training and safety initiatives.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of construction safety experience.
• Experience leading large-scale construction projects.
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction Course, BCSP cert is preferred.
• Previous safety leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead and administer project HSE programs to ensure compliance with safety policies, regulatory requirements, and project standards.
• Conduct field audits, safety observations, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and drive corrective actions.
• Review and approve contractor safety personnel, safety plans, and project-specific HSE procedures.
• Partner with project management, contractors, and site leadership to integrate safety requirements into daily operations.
• Investigate incidents, perform root cause analyses, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Monitor contractor performance and provide coaching, training, and guidance to strengthen safety culture and compliance.
• Facilitate safety meetings, track safety trends and corrective actions, and communicate project safety performance to key stakeholders.
• Provide technical expertise on OSHA regulations, industry standards, and best practices within construction and general industry environments.
• Manage injury and incident reporting, case management, and return-to-work processes as needed.
• Promote continuous improvement through safety initiatives, training programs, and workforce engagement efforts.
