Job summary

City of Suffolk is seeking a Supervisory Housing/Property Maintenance Official to oversee the Property Maintenance Division in the absence of the official. You will supervise inspectors, enforce state and local housing codes, manage inspections, and handle court actions as needed.

You will coordinate with other departments, train staff on code provisions, and respond to public inquiries. A Virginia ICC/VA certification and five years of experience are required.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and ICC/VA Property Maintenance Inspector certification.
• Requires Commonwealth of Virginia Property Maintenance Official Certificate and at least five (5) years of responsible experience as a Property Maintenance Inspector, or related field, or any equivalent combination of experience.
• Certification in FEMA IS 100, 200, 700, 800 required within one (1) year of hire. Requires a valid driver's license.
• ICC CLA (Code Official Safety Certification)

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily functions of the Property Maintenance Division in the absence of the Housing/Property Maintenance Official.
• Research code provisions, ordinances, and related City policies.
• Address complaints, communicate abatement action, and provide follow up.
• Enter inspection data, results, and reports into an automated database and prepare violation notifications.
• Coordinate with other city departments and issue permits for home certification.
• Train inspectors on code violations and interpretation of codes.
• Attend meetings related to Historical District and provide reports, with input based on expertise.
• Respond to emergency calls after-hours as needed.
