Job summary

WVU Medicine is seeking a Security Officer to provide information and assistance to patients, visitors, and staff while enforcing hospital safety policies. The role includes responding to requests, offering transport and escort services, and patrolling facilities to deter incidents.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and security-related certifications as specified by the department. Training in defensive tactics and protective duties is provided.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent with 1 year of security experience, or an Associate’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, forensics, law or related field.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Obtain certification in BLS or HeartSaver First Aid within 60 days of hire date.
• State criminal background check and Federal checks as required for regulated areas.
• Defensive Tactics, OC Spray, Baton, Taser, Handcuffing, AVADE Training Levels I-III as established by department.

Responsibilities

• Maintains consistent visibility and presence to provide information and directional support for patients, visitors and staff.
• Responds to requests for information/assistance in a caring, courteous manner.
• Provides physical assistance, wheelchair assistance, transport and escort services.
• Monitors traffic flow in parking areas and assists with parking permits and violations.
• Protects people and property by preventing accidents, theft and vandalism per policy.
• Performs routine building rounds and doors unlocking, exterior patrols and incident documentation.
