Job summary

La Amistad Behavioral Health Services is seeking a Director of Health Information Management to lead the HIM department and ensure precise documentation of patient care in a behavioral health setting.

Under the CFO, you will oversee policies, privacy, and security of records, coordinate with clinical teams, and drive EHR adoption and data workflows to support quality outcomes and reimbursement efforts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Record Information from an accredited college program.
• Five years’ experience in Medical Records/Health Information Management with at least one year in medical-surgical facilities and at least one year in residential and/or acute psychiatric facilities.
• RHIA or RHIT certification with management experience.
• Ability to pay attention to detail, develop and maintain effective systems. Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the Health Information Management (HIM) department within a behavioral health setting to ensure precise and timely documentation of patient care.
• Ensure full compliance with all regulatory requirements specific to behavioral health.
• Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures that protect privacy and security of behavioral health records.
• Oversee medical coding and billing processes using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and DSM-5 coding standards.
• Collaborate with clinical teams, social workers, therapists, and IT to enhance EHR functionality and data workflows.
• Manage HIM staffing, budgeting, training, and professional development.
• Lead initiatives to improve EHR adoption and compliance in behavioral health documentation.
• Analyze health data to support clinical outcomes and reimbursement efforts.
• Guide responses to audits and quality assurance reviews.
