Job summary

Civic Recruitment Limited is seeking a highways engineer for a 6-month contract with a London local authority. The role focuses on delivering schemes for road safety, active travel and public realm improvements within the Hackney area.

Key responsibilities include project delivery, CAD design, site inspections, stakeholder engagement and ensuring compliance with LCDS/DMRB/TSRGD. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Highway Engineering or related discipline.
• Post-qualification experience in highways, traffic or civil engineering.
• Membership of, or eligibility for, a relevant professional institution.
• Extensive practical experience in traffic, transport, highway or civil engineering.
• Significant experience designing and delivering highways, active travel, road safety and/or traffic management schemes.
• Strong knowledge of LCDS, DMRB and TSRGD; understanding of highway legislation and approval processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver highways, traffic management and public realm schemes.
• Design and implement highway projects to current standards.
• Produce and review engineering drawings using AutoCAD.
• Undertake site visits and record highway assets and conditions.
• Manage risks and coordinate with contractors and stakeholders.
• Support public consultations and prepare technical reports for approvals.
• Represent the Council on highways, traffic and engineering matters.
