Job summary

RINA is looking for a Senior Highway Engineer to join our Civil Engineering Division in Cleveland or Columbus, OH. You will lead highway design efforts, mentor engineers, and engage directly with clients on high-visibility transportation projects.

The role balances hands‑on engineering with leadership, proposal involvement, and regional growth. Remote/hybrid options may be available and you should bring a PE license or the ability to obtain it within six months.

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering from ABET accredited institution.
  • 8+ years of experience in design engineering, preferably on ODOT or roadway projects.
  • Ohio PE License or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation Open Roads Design and/or AutoCAD Civil3D.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally on larger, multidiscipline projects.
  • Proficiency in standard engineering procedures and project management methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software and PC software used in engineering.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently in a hybrid/remote location.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, CAD drawings, and specifications on assigned projects under guidance of a Project Manager.
  • Collaborates with engineers, departments, suppliers, and clients.
  • Coordinates with drafters, designers, and staff engineers within the project team.
  • Completes drawings/project responsibilities within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Reviews drawings for completeness, accuracy, and constructability.
  • Develops conceptual and basic engineering documents including studies and material specs.
  • Uses computer aided engineering design software to perform tasks.
  • Observes safety and security procedures.

Compensation Data

$110,000 - $150,000 commensurate with education and experience.

We’re seeking a Senior Engineer who is passionate about highway engineering and eager to play a hands‑on role in delivering high‑visibility transportation projects. As a Senior Engineer, you’ll lead technical design and problem‑solving from concept through delivery, collaborate closely with project leadership, and mentor developing engineers and designers. You’ll also engage directly with clients, contribute to proposals and project strategy, and help grow our regional footprint—all while balancing hands‑on engineering with leadership influence.

Key Accountabilities
  • Responsible for designs, CAD drawings, and specifications on assigned projects, under the guidance of and in collaboration with a Project Manager.
  • Works with other engineers on a project team, maintaining effective communication with team members, other departments, suppliers, and clients.
  • Coordinates with drafters, designers, and staff engineers within project team.
  • Completes drawings/project responsibilities within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Reviews drawings for completeness, accuracy, and constructability.
  • Develops conceptual and basic engineering documents including studies, design criteria, material specifications, etc.
  • Utilizes computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
  • Observes safety and security procedures.
Qualifications
  • BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
  • 8+ years of experience in design engineering, preferably on ODOT or other roadway transportation projects
  • Ohio Professional Engineering (PE) License or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation Open Roads Design and/or AutoCAD Civil3D.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and coordinate with others on larger, multidiscipline projects.
  • Proficiency in standard engineering procedures and project management methodologies and techniques.
  • Working knowledge of computer-aided design software and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently under a hybrid/remote location situation.

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Local or regional travel (i.e. job sites) anticipated based upon business need
