Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Task Leader to support and lead highway design projects across New England. This mid‑ to senior‑level transportation engineer role stays hands‑on while growing into broader leadership responsibilities.

The position can be based in Boston, MA; East Hartford, CT; or Manchester, NH with hybrid work flexibility. Travel up to 10% may be required, and PE licensure is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional engineering (PE) license.
• 10 years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical delivery of highway design tasks from concept through PS&E.
• Develop and review roadway alignments, design criteria, construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Provide day‑to‑day technical oversight to ensure quality, schedule, and budget objectives are met.
• Mentor and review work performed by junior engineers; provide technical guidance and support.
• Collaborate with Project Managers and Project Technical Leaders on complex DOT projects.
• Review designs for compliance with federal, state, and local standards; sign and seal documents, as required.
