Job summary

CDM Smith seeks a Task Leader to support and lead the technical delivery of highway design projects across New England. This role is ideal for a mid- to senior-level transportation engineer who wants to stay hands-on while growing into broader leadership responsibilities.

Work locations include Boston, MA; East Hartford, CT; or Manchester, NH, with hybrid flexibility. You will mentor staff, ensure quality, and coordinate with project teams to deliver safe, economical transportation solutions.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline.
Professional engineering (PE) license.
10 years of related experience.
Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

Responsibilities

Lead highway design tasks from concept through PS&E.
Develop alignments, design criteria, construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
Provide day‑to‑day technical oversight to ensure quality, schedule, and budget objectives are met.
Mentor and review work performed by junior engineers; provide technical guidance.
Collaborate with Project Managers and Project Technical Leaders on complex DOT projects.
Review designs for compliance with federal, state and local standards; sign and seal documents as required.
Perform site reviews and field studies to support constructible, real‑world design solutions.
Support proposal and task order efforts, including scope development and technical review.
