Job summary
EXP is seeking a Senior Highway Design Engineer/Lead to join our Coral Gables and Fort Lauderdale offices. You will lead highway projects, develop civil designs for multi-modal transportation, and prepare bids and design-build packages per FDOT standards.
Strong software proficiency and Florida PE are required. Ideal candidates bring 12+ years of experience, team leadership, and excellent communication skills, with FDOT experience as a plus.
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in civil or transportation engineering.
- 12+ years related experience.
- Licensed Professional Engineer in Florida.
- FDOT experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of MicroStation and OpenRoads software.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Active involvement in professional societies is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
Responsibilities
- Perform and lead engineering design review tasks for highway projects.
- Develop civil design of multi-modal transportation projects per standards.
- Develop plans, specifications, quantities, and cost estimates.
- Prepare final bid packages and design-build packages.
- Familiarity with FDOT software versions for design projects.
- Utilize design tools and software as required (ORD, MicroStation, Civil 3D).

EXP is currently seeking a talented Senior Highway Design Engineer for our Coral Gables and Fort Lauderdale Office. The candidate will find opportunities on a wide range of projects involving multi-modal roadway planning, highway design, civil design, design review and construction oversight.
- Perform and lead engineering design review tasks for highway projects
- Develop civil design of multi-modal transportation projects per AASHTO, MUTCD and FDOT applicable design standards.
- Develop plans, specifications, quantities, and cost estimates.
- Prepare final bid packages, design-build packages, and bridging documents.
- Familiarity and proficiency in applying FDOT Current Supported Software Versions to design projects as required including:
- OpenRoads Designer (ORD)
- Bentley ProjectWise CONNECT
- MicroStation
- Civil 3D
- Auto Turn
- Guide Sign
- Bachelor of Science or higher in Engineering, preferably in civil or transportation curriculum.
- 12+ years related experience.
- Licensed PE in the State of Florida.
- Licensed PE in other Southeast States a plus
- FDOT experience preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of MicroStation and OpenRoads software.
- Strong technical design background in highway design and transportation engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team,
- Project management experience desirable
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Active industry participation in professional societies at local and State level a plus.
- Basic knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
