Job description

Senior Highway Design Engineer / Lead

EXP is an employee‑owned firm dedicated to innovative engineering solutions. We are seeking a Senior Highway Design Engineer for our Coral Gables and Fort Lauderdale offices, working on multi‑modal roadway planning, highway design, civil design, design review, and construction oversight.

Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities

• Perform and lead engineering design review tasks for highway projects
• Develop civil design for multi‑modal transportation projects per AASHTO, MUTCD, and FDOT applicable design standards
• Develop plans, specifications, quantities, and cost estimates
• Prepare final bid packages, design‑build packages, and bridging documents
• Utilize FDOT Current Supported Software Versions, including OpenRoads Designer (ORD), Bentley ProjectWise CONNECT, MicroStation, Civil 3D, Auto Turn, and Guide Sign

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science or higher in Engineering, preferably civil or transportation
• 12+ years of related experience
• Licensed Professional Engineer in Florida; licensing in other southeastern states is a plus
• FDOT experience preferred
• In‑depth knowledge of MicroStation and OpenRoads software
• Strong technical background in highway design and transportation engineering
• Demonstrated teamwork and excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Project management experience is desirable
• Active participation in professional societies at local or state level is a plus
• Basic knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint, & Excel
