Job summary

City of Harker Heights is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to support municipal roadwork and related tasks in the Harker Heights, Texas area. You will operate multiple machines and perform routine maintenance while adhering to safety standards.

Requires a High school diploma or GED and a valid Texas CDL-A. Two years of heavy equipment experience or demonstrated proficiency is expected; training and stand-by duties may apply as part of the role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Two years of experience in heavy equipment operation or demonstrated proficiency.
• Skills and/or abilities may substitute for education/experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate bulldozer, loader, drag line, grader, backhoe, scraper, roller, and asphalt lay down equipment.
• Dig pits, push down trees, stockpile gravel/sand/dirt, grade roads, and perform related tasks.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs; secure equipment after shifts.
• Promote a safe work environment and follow established procedures.
• May serve as crew leader in absence and respond to after-hours standby calls.
• Attend duty phone on weekends and maintain good public relations.
