Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor seeks a Senior Billing Specialist to manage complex billing and accounts receivable functions. The role requires reviewing patient records, posting charges, researching discrepancies, and ensuring accurate reimbursement across obstetric, newborn, OR, triage, and delivery services.

You will lead complex billing tasks, assist with staff training, and collaborate with providers and departments to ensure compliant, timely charges and charges posting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; experience in healthcare billing preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to perform complex account review, billing reconciliation, error correction, and problem resolution.
• Knowledge of healthcare billing practices, insurance requirements, claim processing, and accounts receivable procedures.
• Experience using electronic health record and billing systems, preferably MiChart or a similar system.
• Ability to interpret patient account information, clinical documentation, billing reports, and payer requirements.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills; attention to detail.

Responsabilités

• Charge Review and Posting: review patient records, enter and post charges in MiChart, ensure accuracy.
• Review and post charges for newborn screening, NST, OR procedures, triage, and delivery services.
• Verify charges are supported by documentation and correctly assigned to accounts and providers.
• Identify and correct missing, incomplete, duplicate, or inaccurate charges.
• Review unposted-charge reports and queues to ensure timely posting.
• Complex Billing and Account Resolution: conduct account reviews, discrepancy resolution, and reconciliation.
• Research posting errors and payer issues; ensure accurate reimbursement and current balances.
• Escalate unresolved issues with documentation for effective resolution.
• Communication and Coordination: liaise with medical staff, billing personnel, and other departments; clarify billing requirements.
• Follow up on missing or conflicting information; explain billing issues clearly to stakeholders.
• Maintain professional, timely communication during dispute resolution.
• Reconciliation and Reporting: reconcile charges and accounts; review reports to identify trends and issues.
• Track outstanding issues and document research, corrections, and communications.
• Assist with audits and provide requested billing documentation.
• Systems and Workflow Support: use MiChart and related systems; test changes and troubleshoot billing workflows.
• Participate in testing and validation of system updates; propose workflow improvements.
• Provide training support and create job aids and procedures.
