Job summary

Navira Federal, LLC seeks a Writer and Author (Print Journalism) for a proposed contract with Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. You will tell stories of clinical advances, research, patient journeys and staff achievements, from pitch to publication, on-site.

The role requires a degree in journalism or a related field, 5+ years of journalism or writing experience, and experience in healthcare or military public affairs, with HIPAA knowledge and strong interviewing

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English or a related field.
• 5+ years of journalism or professional writing experience with a portfolio showing interviewing and long-form writing.
• Experience in healthcare communications, military public affairs, or a similar regulated environment.
• Thorough understanding of HIPAA and safeguarding PHI during interviews.
• Project management skills: editorial calendar, content strategy, handling multiple stories.
• Strong interpersonal skills to build trust with interview subjects.

Responsibilities

• Plan and manage editorial calendar for print and long-form digital publications from pitch to publication.
• Identify story ideas on clinical advances, research, patient journeys and staff achievements.
• Conduct thorough, sensitive interviews with medical staff, patients, families and subject matter experts.
• Write, rewrite and edit copy in AP Style for news releases, feature stories and publications.
• Work with photographers, videographers and graphic designers on multimedia story packages.
• Support public affairs work: media queries, press interviews, website and social updates, weekly reports.
