Job summary

Karma Automotive is seeking a Sr. Technical Specialist for HCU Controls, Software & Hardware to own the complete HCU lifecycle, from requirements and architecture through production launch and field support.

You will define scalable hardware/software architectures, lead cross-functional teams, and drive safety, diagnostics, and cybersecurity in a challenging automotive environment. The role requires extensive experience in embedded software, hardware design, and model-based development, with

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• Typically 12+ years of automotive controls, embedded software, and ECU hardware experience with safety-critical systems.
• Demonstrated leadership of HCU/vehicle control units from architecture to production.
• Expertise in hybrid/electric supervisory controls and vehicle integration.
• Strong knowledge of embedded C, hardware/software interfaces, and calibration.
• Proficiency with MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow and auto-code generation.
• Experience with ISO 26262 safety lifecycle, FMEA, and safety validation.
• Ability to lead cross-functional technical decisions and supplier coordination.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end HCU strategy, architecture, requirements, interfaces, and production support.
• Define scalable hardware/software architecture including processors, I/O, and networks.
• Lead decomposition of requirements into controls, software, hardware, and diagnostics.
• Lead development of hybrid supervisory control functions and energy management.
• Establish and govern interfaces with engine, battery management, inverter, and vehicle systems.
• Oversee model-based controls using MATLAB/Simulink and code generation workflows.
