Job summary

Lightmatter is seeking a Staff/Sr. Staff HW Test Automation Engineer to write the code that drives lab instruments, testers, wafer probers, and lab automation to bring a photonic chip to life and prove it works.

You will work across an internal test software framework, ATE test method and test flow development, wafer prober integration, instrument control, embedded/firmware interfaces, and data pipelines from lab equipment to structured results.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of hardware test software or ATE experience, ideally in semiconductor or photonics.
• Track record of owning test software architecture for a product line and scaling frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with ATE test method/test flow development and embedded test frameworks for hardware test automation.
• Mentoring engineers and driving cross-functional technical decisions.
• Ability to scope, plan, implement, and validate an automation project end-to-end.
• Comfortable reading and reasoning about embedded software (C/C++) and firmware to co-develop with hardware teams.

Responsibilities

• Learn the hardware you're automating to inform software decisions.
• Design and build test software that automates bring-up, characterization, and production test sequences across bench and ATE environments.
• Develop and maintain test methods and instrument control code; write and review code daily.
• Collaborate with hardware and characterization engineers to translate device physics and test requirements into automation.
• Build and maintain data logging and results pipelines for accurate data and downstream analysis.
• Debug integration issues across device under test, fixture, instrument, and test code to find root cause.
• Support test program releases to internal cells and, at senior levels, external facilities.
• Communicate progress and blockers daily and spend time hands-on in the lab with hardware.
