Job summary

Amazon.com in Bellevue is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer (Mechanical) to lead the mechanical design and integration of delivery robots into the last-mile delivery ecosystem. You will own mechanical systems for in-van docking, charging, storage, deployment, and retrieval, as well as station-side docking and handoff workflows.

• Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures.
• Experience with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.
• Experience with the project management of technical projects.

Responsibilities

• Own the mechanical design and integration of robot-related systems within delivery vans, including docking, retention, deployment, and secure transport.
• Design in-van charging solutions for robots, including interfaces, alignment features, thermal considerations, and serviceability.
• Lead mechanical design for robot ingress/egress mechanisms, ramps, guides, or fixtures enabling safe deployment and retrieval.
• Define station-side infrastructure such as cart docking, robot staging, and handoff interfaces that align with warehouse workflows.
• Translate operational and autonomy requirements into clear mechanical requirements, tolerances, and constraints.
• Partner with electrical, firmware, robotics, and vehicle engineering teams for end-to-end integration.
• Drive designs from concept through prototyping, validation, production, including DFMEA and environmental testing.
• Ensure safety, ergonomics, and regulatory compliance for vehicle and workplace safety standards.
• Optimize for cost, manufacturability, durability, and fleet-scale maintenance.
• Support pilot deployments and field testing with rapid iteration based on driver feedback.
