Job summary

Merge is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a Growth-focused product area, overseeing a 10+ engineer team and owning the customer expansion roadmap. You will partner with product, design, GTM, and leadership to drive initiatives like unified expansion and AI-powered workflows while shaping team structure and mentoring future managers.

You will operate as a hands-on technical and product leader, deep-diving into architecture and tradeoffs when needed, and champion a culture of ownership,

Qualifications

• 7 to 10+ years of engineering experience
• 3+ years in management
• Experience leading teams of 8 to 12+ engineers in fast-paced, product-focused environments
• Hands-on leader, comfortable with deep product and technical decisions
• Experience building and scaling teams, with potential to grow into managing managers
• Strong product instincts and ability to drive business impact
• Comfort operating in ambiguity and driving clarity in evolving problems
• Familiarity with modern backend systems (Python, Django, Postgres, AWS, Kubernetes) and AI/automation interest

Responsibilities

• Lead and scale a high-impact engineering team of 10+ engineers focused on Growth and customer expansion
• Own the roadmap for a core product area, translating company priorities into fast, iterative execution
• Partner with product, design, GTM, and leadership to drive initiatives like unified expansion, enterprise search, and AI-powered workflows
• Build and evolve the team structure, including hiring new engineers and growing future managers
• Act as a hands-on technical and product leader, diving into architecture and tradeoffs as needed
• Drive a culture of ownership, speed, and low-ego collaboration across the team
• Identify and remove friction in the customer journey to increase activation, retention, and expansion
• Champion pragmatic use of AI and automation to accelerate development and improve team leverage
