Job summary
Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Grounds and Nursing Services Specialist 4 to support the upkeep of the grounds at the Washington Soldiers Home. You will perform experienced gardening and landscaping tasks across multiple areas including nurseries and greenhouse spaces. The role emphasizes maintaining floral beds, turf, hedges, irrigation, and safe grounds.
The position requires English proficiency and offers a 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Qualifications
- Two years of gardening, plant care, landscape construction or grounds maintenance experience.
- A college degree in agronomy, botany, horticulture, soils or closely allied field may substitute for gardening experience.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered on a year-for-year basis.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain outdoor beds, planting displays, soils and amendments; manage disease and pests using appropriate controls.
- Cultivate, water, fertilize, prune, mulch and maintain floral displays.
- Mow lawns, maintain turf and hedges; operate and maintain power equipment and irrigation systems.
- Rake, clean and manage campus grounds; monitor lawn health and apply fertilizers.
- Calibrate sprayers and spreaders per label; manage soil, seedbed prep and reseeding where needed.
