Title: Senior Grants Manager

Employment Type: Full-Time/Exempt

Wage: A competitive annual salary range of $80,000 - $95,000 base pay

Department: Philanthropy

Reports To: Deputy Director of Institutional Giving

Position Location: Sacramento, CA; Oakland, CA; Los Angeles, CA; Fresno, CA; Riverside, CA

Work Schedule: Four Day Work Week: Two (2) days in office, two (2) days remote. However, there may be certain circumstances, like pressing deadlines or peak business periods, where it becomes necessary for the organization to temporarily switch to a five-day work week.

Responsibilities

As a key member of the Philanthropy Team, the Senior Grants Manager helps EnviroVoters and The Ed Fund secure new and renew existing grants to meet its annual fundraising goals. The Senior Grants Manager leads the creative development of compelling funding proposals that reflect the work, programs, and values of organization, researches and applies for funding opportunities, cultivates and deepens relationships with grantors, and ensures foundation deadlines are met and reports are submitted, and payments are received on schedule.

  • Ensure seamless and timely process for all tasks, communication and reports related to the grant process, including letters of inquiry, proposals, reports, and stewardship activities.
  • Manage a portfolio of 15-25 institutional donors, implementing Moves Management strategies to cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships.
  • Lead stewardship meetings, solicitations, and renewal negotiations in partnership with the Deputy Director of Institutional Giving.
  • Be responsive to funding opportunities and prepare thoughtful and strategic program pitches based on deep funder research in collaboration with the Deputy Director of Institutional Giving.
  • Deeply understand EnviroVoters/The Ed Fund’s programs, goals, and financial needs in order to develop compelling proposals, seek new funding opportunities, and report on funding impact.
  • Project manage proposal development with staff in various departments, ensuring that all aspects of an application are complete, organized, and flow together in a cohesive manner aligned with EnviroVoters/The Ed Fund’s standards.
  • Work proactively with other EnviroVoters/The Ed Fund’s departments to adhere to all programmatic and fiscal reporting requirements stipulated in grants.
  • Write grant proposals, including researching data that supports the development of the funding request, aligning funders’ criteria with EnviroVoters/The Ed Fund’s needs and ensuring the proper preparation of project budgets.
  • Submit grant proposals, including all necessary attachments, such as audited financials, organization budgets, staff lists, tax determination letters, etc.
  • Ensure funding agreements are finalized, signed, and payments are received in a timely manner.
  • Ensure quality foundation reports are produced and delivered, accessing support from Grants Specialist when available.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of skill in communication and positive interaction with all external parties, employees, and the community at large.
  • Provide internal guidance to staff on permissible usage of grants and answer questions as they arise. Act as a resource to staff and support the biweekly grants office hours.
  • Evaluate systems and processes relevant to grant management, and for best practices that align with the organization’s mission and values, as time allows.
  • Manage special projects in support of organizational objectives and perform other duties, as assigned.

MUST HAVES

To be successful in this job, you must possess the following qualities and experience:

  • Five years or more of grant and contracts management or related project management experience in fundraising in the non-profit environment.
  • Strength in delivering oral and written pitches and conducting negotiations with funders.
  • Direct donor engagement experience with and expertise in consistent and effective funder stewardship.
  • An understanding of the grant lifecycle process and knowledge of grant writing (craft, construct, and submit an effective grant application) and grant making techniques, current trends, and best practices.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to plan, organize, and complete multiple grant proposals, projects, tasks and/or reports.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and adapt, work under pressure, use independent judgment, and produce a quality work product within time constraints.
  • Ability to research, analyze, and synthesize information for writing grant proposals, letters, emails, etc. Demonstrated skill in crafting persuasive cases for support.
  • Ability to edit written materials accurately and consistently, including own work.
  • Ability to interpret grant requirements, general business periodicals, professional journals, financial information, technical instructions, and governmental regulations.
  • Exceptional ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion.
  • Passionate about protecting the environment, racial justice and equity, and making meaningful social change.
  • Collegiality; Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with a variety of colleagues from different departments and from different backgrounds.
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs—Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint. Experience with Microsoft Teams is helpful and donor management software/CRMs such as Raiser’s Edge/RENXT is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Environmental Science or Studies, Political Science or Public Policy, Communications or English, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration or another relevant field helpful but not required.
  • Familiarity with Community Centric Fundraising principles preferred.
