Context:
Gaza faces an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe following the escalation of hostilities beginning October 7, 2023, and is one of the most volatile humanitarian crises currently. Approximately 2.1 million people remain in Gaza, with at least 90 percent displaced. Palestine faces a severe water and sanitation crisis that has reached catastrophic levels. The Gaza Strip presents the most dire circumstances, with worsening water situations and limited access to hygiene items due to the continued blockade. Water infrastructure has been severely damaged, limiting access to safe water. Conditions in the West Bank are better but still face significant challenges, including restricted water access.
