Job summary

University of Rochester is seeking an experienced accounting professional to support a large academic department with budgets, grants, and financial reporting. You will manage 100-110 accounts with approximately $20 million in expenditures and provide expert guidance on grant budgets and expenditures.

The role requires strong accounting skills, data management expertise, and knowledge of university policies and federal guidelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in finance functional area and 5 years relevant experience in a health care and/or University setting required
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Significant data management knowledge and strong accounting skills preferred
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, FileMaker Pro/Access, and web-based systems preferred

Responsibilities

• Supports a large academic/research department and manages multiple accounts with substantial expenditures
• Prepares budgets for grant proposals and interfaces with ORPA/ORACS for funded projects and reports
• Designs financial reports for the department chair and oversees grants and salary distributions
• Advises faculty on university policy and federal guidelines and ensures compliance
• Supervises business office staff and handles confidential accounting tasks
• Participates in annual budget processes, space planning collaboration, and internal audits
• Interacts with auditors and supports annual effort certification and grant closeout activities
