Job summary

CHIRLA in Los Angeles is seeking a Senior Grant Writer to manage the grant portfolio under the Deputy Director of Development. You will lead a team, coordinate with program staff, and craft high-quality proposals to diverse funders.

The role requires deep knowledge of CHIRLA's programs, excellent writing, and the ability to meet deadlines while expanding funding sources. This is a full-time position with competitive salary and benefits in Los Angeles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related fields.
• At least five years of grant writing experience.
• Strong writing skills for private and public funders.
• Experience overseeing grant writers.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge of philanthropy funding at local, state and federal levels.
• Excellent organizational and multi-tasking abilities.
• Commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.
• Master’s degree preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Develop an in-depth knowledge of CHIRLA’s mission, plan, programs, and convey this to funders via grant proposals and reports.
• Lead strategic prospecting meetings to identify new grant opportunities and assign them to writers.
• Confirm eligibility for new grants and contract opportunities.
• Lead and support grant writers to achieve fundraising goals across programs.
• Write and package accurate, compelling proposals and reports on deadlines.
• Maintain grant records in electronic and hard copy formats.
• Grow relationships with funding prospects to support organizational goals.
• Strengthen grant systems to ensure timely submission and internal reviews.
• Engage with funders and internal staff to build collaborative relationships.
• Assist with other development activities as requested.
