Job summary

UAB Heersink School of Medicine seeks a Grant Management Specialist Senior-HSOM to oversee the full grant lifecycle for multiple departments, partnering with investigators and managing pre-award and post-award activities, budgets, and submissions.

Remote/Hybrid eligible. Proficiency with ASSIST, myUABresearch, and related sponsor requirements is expected to ensure compliant, timely sponsored projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience required.
• Work experience may not substitute for education requirement.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a trusted point of contact for pre-award and post-award communications with sponsor agencies, sub-award sites, internal groups, and HSOM faculty and staff.
• Prepares and manages complete sponsored research proposals, refines and submits applications, and tracks progress while explaining requirements.
• Develops and maintains project budgets, calculating faculty/staff effort, indirect costs, exclusions, and justifications.
• Monitors proposal milestones, risks, and timelines to support timely submissions across departments.
• Coordinates collection, editing, and submission of required administrative documentation (NIH biosketches, Other Support forms, checklists).
• Reviews draft grant components, provides copy edits to improve clarity and quality of materials.
• Drafts and maintains proposal support materials (letters of support, facilities statements, templates).
• Uses productivity tools to track milestones, suggest workflow improvements, and tailor tracking templates.
• Supports grant development and shared services through sub-award submissions, meetings, and reporting.
