Job summary

NVIDIA is seeking an Applied Research Scientist to design GPU‑native numerical methods for engineering simulation. You will explore solver algorithms, build research prototypes, and move promising ideas into software used by researchers, engineers, and partners.

This role blends numerical analysis, accelerated computing, and production‑minded software engineering to shape AI‑native engineering methods for future NVIDIA platforms.

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent experience in computational mechanics, applied mathematics, scientific computing, computer science, aerospace, mechanical, civil engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of relevant work/research experience.
• Experience with PDE discretization, finite element/volume, nonlinear solvers, or high-performance computing.
• Experience writing numerical software in C++ and Python, with CUDA or GPU code experience.
• Experience profiling and optimizing algorithms on GPUs or multi-GPU systems.

Responsibilities

• Invent and reformulate numerical algorithms co‑designed for modern NVIDIA GPU architectures.
• Develop linear/nonlinear solver approaches including Newton‑Krylov, multigrid, and preconditioning.
• Investigate GPU‑centric reformulations of CPU methods and new synchronization‑avoiding Krylov methods.
• Evaluate algorithms on workloads in mechanics, EDA, multiphysics and related CAE domains.
• Collaborate across CUDA‑X, Warp, NVIDIA Research, universities and industry partners.
