Job summary

The Department of Natural Resources is seeking a government and legislative relations specialist to manage relationships with the Agency director and senior leadership across the department.

You will advise the Director, the Board, and key staff on government affairs, monitor proposed legislation, coordinate testimony, and represent the department with legislators and federal officials.

Qualifications

• Eight (8) years of experience in government affairs, public administration or advocacy.
• Knowledge of legislative processes and testifying before committees.
• Ability to work with legislators and legislative staff on substantive matters.
• Willingness to travel across the state as needed.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain relationships with the Agency director and senior leadership.
• Advise the Agency Director, DNR Board, Chief of Staff, Chief of Education, Outreach and Information, and other leadership on government affairs matters.
• Monitor ongoing issues, programs, and initiatives within the Department.
• Research and formulate natural resources policies and draft legislative/regulatory changes.
• Review and approve regulations submitted for legislative approval.
• Coordinate testimony with subject-matter experts and ensure accurate information is provided to legislators.
