Job summary

SumUp is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the acquiring team and evolve our payments platform. You will influence architectural decisions, build core acquiring capabilities, and deliver reliable, scalable payment experiences for small businesses worldwide.

You will work with Go, APIs, and modern infrastructure (Docker, AWS, Kubernetes) to create robust systems, improve observability, and collaborate across Finance, Compliance and Risk teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with Go.
• Experience building and consuming APIs in production environments.
• Understanding of architecture, design, data modelling, API design and SOLID.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases; PostgreSQL and Kafka are valuable.
• Proficient with Docker, AWS and Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Design and build core acquiring capabilities including authorisation, clearing and settlement processing.
• Develop APIs, data models and services forming the foundation of the acquiring platform.
• Build reporting, back-office and operational tools for reliable daily operations.
• Ensure systems meet card-scheme, security and compliance requirements.
• Create observability, monitoring and incident-response foundations for an always-on platform.
• Collaborate with Processing, Reconciliation, Risk, Compliance, Finance and Treasury teams.
• Contribute to architecture discussions and sound technical decisions in evolving domain.
• Take ownership of medium-to-large technical initiatives spanning teams.
• Identify and help prioritise technical debt and operational risks.
• Support team growth through mentoring, code reviews and testing/on-call practices.
