The Opportunity

Upon award, BTAS will be filling potential openings for the Space Systems Command (SSC). SSC plays a critical role in advancing the United States's space capabilities, delivering cutting-edge solutions to protect and enhance national security. SSC/SZBC specializes in highly classified Space Domain Awareness (SDA) systems, Defensive and Offensive Space Control (DSC/OSC) capabilities, and space test range assets to support the Department of Defense’s (DoD) current and future operational needs.


As a leader in space technology, SSC/SZ-BC is responsible for the development, integration, testing, deployment, and sustainment of mission-critical systems spanning the entire acquisition life cycle. These efforts ensure the United States Space Force (USSF) and its mission partners maintain a strategic advantage in space operations. This position will support multiple SSC/SZ-BC programs, as well as other initiatives across the Space Force, Air Force, and allied organizations.

Primary Responsibilities


  • Provide space acquisitions, engineering, operations, and technical advice for all project and program stages.

  • Support acquisitions of advanced technology and integration activities.

  • Advise on cost, schedule, and performance.

  • Revise or draft Joint Capabilities Integrated Development System (JCIDS) and other acquisition documentation.

  • Support presentations to internal and external customers.

  • Develop work using latest government guidance (e.g., MIL-STD).

  • Provide draft SME-level technical and/or programmatic status reports as requested.

  • Identify and recommend improvements in acquisition processes.

  • Assist in building and maintaining government risk programs.

  • Maintain awareness of program schedules and monitor acquisition implementation.

  • Report requirement shortfalls and provide program assessments.

  • Advise on technical engagements such as meetings, design reviews, and conferences.

  • Assist integrated product teams and establish interfaces.

  • Provide technical and operational insights for mission protection and data assessments.

  • Recommend solutions for technical anomalies and evaluate impact.

  • Provide engineering and technical expertise for Command and Control (C2) efforts.

  • Establish liaison between Space C2, Enterprise Ground Services (EGS), and classified program offices.

  • Integrate C2 solutions with classified portfolio.

  • Provide cybersecurity support in accordance with DoDI 8500.01.

  • Offer recommendations on cyber activities and brief government on cybersecurity issues.

  • Facilitate and support cybersecurity working groups and meetings.

  • Manage program Authority to Operate, Authority to Test, Authority to Connect, and associated Interim Authorities.

  • Support cyber testing and document findings and corrective actions in accordance with the Federal Information Security Management Act.


Minimum Qualifications


  • MA/MS degree is required.

  • Ten or more years’ experience in this type of position or program is required.

  • Must be an expert in highly classified space control space, ground, and C2 systems (concepts development, build, and test).

  • Must be an expert in maturing technologies through all TRL levels.

  • Must be an expert in multiple space control-related technologies, including but not limited to optical, electronic support, signal processing, communications.

  • Requires worldwide travel to support ground communications infrastructure.

  • BA/BS degree is acceptable if the candidate possesses at least 12 years of experience in this type of position or program. The Materiel Leader may also waive the MA/MS requirement.


Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not supervise the work of others.


Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.


Physical Demands

Must be able to operate a computer and other standard office equipment. Must be able to remain in a stationary position, 80%.


Travel

Worldwide travel is required.

Compensation / Salary Range

BTAS adheres to federal, state, and local regulations. This is a Full-Time, Salary, Exempt position. The following salary range is what we reasonably expect to pay but is contingent and subject to a variety of factors, including but not limited to years of experience, education, certification(s), training, specialized skills, responsibilities, etc.


Salary range: $147,000 – $250,000 annual
