Job summary

Smithfield Foods, Inc. seeks a Mechanical Engineering expert to lead equipment qualification, validation, and technology deployment across pork processing operations. You will collaborate with U.S. and China teams, suppliers, and researchers to ensure safety, sanitation, and efficiency in deployment.

The role emphasizes evaluating advanced processing and automation technologies, driving standardization, and partnering with OEMs to implement next-generation solutions in U.S. facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and 5+ years of relevant experience in food processing, packaging, industrial equipment, or manufacturing engineering.
• Experience qualifying and validating manufacturing equipment.
• Knowledge of sanitary design, washdown-duty equipment, USDA-regulated facilities, and food processing systems.
• Ability to travel domestically greater than 50% and internationally as required.

Responsibilities

• Lead equipment specification, qualification, and validation activities through reviews, testing, pilot trials, and evaluations.
• Conduct technical due diligence and lead global technology scouting and benchmarking.
• Collaborate with US and China operations, engineering teams, and external stakeholders to transfer and implement technologies.
• Evaluate mechanical designs, sanitary construction, and lifecycle costs to ensure safety and reliability.
• Qualify and optimize processing, packaging, conveyance, robotics, and end-of-line equipment.
