Job summary

General Motors Company is seeking an Associate Director – Global Customs & Trade Counsel to act as GM’s senior legal and compliance advisor for global customs and North American export-control matters. The role sets enterprise legal strategy, risk governance, and policies, while guiding major regulatory disputes and audits across Legal, Finance, Purchasing, Engineering, and Supply Chain.

The position reports to the General Director – Global Customs and emphasizes leading complex regulatory

Qualifications

JD from an accredited law school.
Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
10+ years in legal, customs, international trade, or export-control matters.

Responsibilities

Serve as senior legal and compliance authority for global customs and export-control matters.
Establish enterprise legal strategy, risk governance, and controls.
Advise senior executives on material customs, trade, and regulatory risks.
Lead audits, investigations, disclosures, protests, and regulatory matters.
Oversee outside counsel and experts for significant matters.
Provide practical legal guidance on contracts and evolving supply-chain models.
Develop and publish legal memoranda and communications for Customs and business partners.
