Job summary

The New York Times is hiring for a General Ledger Accountant to provide accounting support, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close. You will collaborate with business managers and accounting staff and report to the Manager, Financial Accounting.

Responsibilities include reviewing GL accounts, ensuring accuracy of balances, coordinating inventory reporting, and improving processes while maintaining internal controls. Some travel for inventory counts is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.
• 5+ years of general accounting experience.
• Apply professional judgment to complex accounting matters.
• Ability to convert complex data into meaningful information for actionable plans.
• Experience with general accounting concepts and procedures.
• Requires a detail-oriented individual.

Responsibilities

• Perform analytical review on more complex General Ledger accounts and research unusual results.
• Provide analysis of the composition and validity of account balances.
• Coordinate inventory reporting with the Abinet inventory subsystem.
• Work with managers to determine necessary month-end journal entries.
• Assist with ad hoc or customized analytics.
• Apply proper accounting treatment to new financial transactions and record journal entries to the GL.
• Respond to questions from business units regarding general accounting and Workday matters.
• Investigate and resolve GL inconsistencies.
• Assess current processes and recommend improvements and efficiencies.
• Ensure accounting procedures are documented and internal controls are strong.
• Travel for physical inventory counts is expected.
• Support the value of journalistic independence and NYT mission.
