Job summary

Axiom Consultants is seeking a Scientific Programmer IV to support nowCOAST upgrades and bug fixes for STOFS-2D/3D, BlueTopo coverage, and NOAA product upgrades before hurricane season. You will test GeoServer 3 compatibility, enhance data visualization, and help maintain the public data pipeline for NBS through GIS services and interactive viewers.

Ideal candidates have 2–4 years in GIS Python apps, familiarity with NOAA datasets, AWS services, and containerized deployment.

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's in computer science, meteorology, or physical oceanography.
2–4 years in software development, GIS web mapping, and Python-based apps.
Strong Python and JavaScript skills; some Java knowledge.
Experience with Linux systems, version control, and documentation.
Familiarity with NOAA data formats (netCDF, GRIB2, HDF5) is a plus.

Responsibilities

Assist in writing/modifying Python-based data acquisition, processing and ingest software for near real-time NOAA products.
Add layers/services to nowCOAST GeoServer for OCS/NOAA products.
Test and implement web visualization for STOFS/NOAA outputs.
Update BlueTopo coverage and S-104/S-111 guidance on the viewer.
Support GeoServer v3 compatibility and AWS-based monitoring tools.
Update documentation for new datasets and functionality.
