Job summary

RIVA Solutions, Inc. is seeking a Junior to Mid-Level Scientific Programmer to support NOAA CoastWatch in modernizing satellite information access via a cloud environment. You will join a team implementing cloud-native delivery, APIs for data access, and geospatial processing of STAR satellite products.

The role emphasizes building robust data services in AWS, handling NetCDF/HDF/GeoTIFF data, and collaborating across CoastWatch, PolarWatch, and NESDIS teams to meet operational constraints.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Earth Sciences, Geography, GIS, Meteorology, or related field.
• 2 to 5 years of professional experience in scientific programming, software engineering, or data engineering.
• Hands-on experience in AWS cloud environment to host, manage, and distribute large datasets.
• Strong proficiency in Python and geospatial data formats (NetCDF, HDF, GeoTIFF) and vector formats (Shapefile).
• Experience building RESTful APIs for data querying and subsetting.

Responsibilities

• Transition experimental and operational datasets to cloud-native delivery systems.
• Design and build robust data access APIs for end users to filter, download, and crop datasets.
• Handle geospatial data processing with raster and vector formats (NetCDF, HDF, GeoTIFF, Shapefile).
• Develop QA and science maintenance capabilities to support NOAA end users.
• Collaborate with Cryosphere Science Teams, PolarWatch, NESDIS stakeholders, and CoastWatch team members.
