Job summary

HDR is seeking a Senior GIS Analyst to independently manage and lead large GIS analysis projects, guiding teams and coordinating with non-GIS project managers and clients. You will develop spatial models using Python and ArcGIS tools, ensuring quality through QA plans and scheduling resources effectively.

The role emphasizes leadership of GIS projects, advanced technical currency, and contribution to business development efforts, within HDR's employee-owned culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Planning, Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years GIS experience; advanced degree may offset 4 years.
  • Proficient in ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online and extensions (3D Analyst, Spatial Analyst).

Responsibilities

  • Independently organize and lead large GIS analysis projects.
  • Design and apply GIS on projects with non-GIS PMs and clients.
  • Develop vector and raster spatial analysis models using Spatial ModelBuilder, Python or other GIS scripting languages.
  • Serve as GIS lead for project marketing, budget development and resource scheduling.
  • Prepare QA plans for GIS tasks and oversee their implementation.
  • Supervise GIS professionals and ensure successful completion of GIS projects or tasks.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

In the role of Senior GIS Analyst, we'll count on you to:

  • Independently organize and conduct large, complex GIS analysis projects as Project Manager or GIS technical team leader
  • Work with non-GIS Project Managers and clients to design and effectively employ GIS on projects
  • Develop vector and raster spatial analysis models using Spatial ModelBuilder, Python or other GIS scripting languages
  • Serve as GIS lead for project marketing, budget development and resource scheduling
  • Prepare quality assurance plans for GIS tasks and oversee their implementation
  • Supervise other GIS professionals and ensure successful completion of GIS projects or GIS tasks
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in remote sensing, asset management, ArcSDE, ArcGIS Server, or mobile GIS (ArcGIS Mobile, ArcPad) a plus
  • GISP, AICP, PE or other professional certification a plus
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, Planning, Engineering, Natural Sciences, or closely related field
  • A minimum of 8 years of practical GIS experience; an advanced degree in relevant field may offset 4 years of experience
  • Proficient in use of ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS extensions e.g., 3D Analyst, Spatial Analyst etc.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft 365 Apps
  • Experience with ETL tools (FME) and other advanced analyst tools e.g., Arcade, ArcGIS Notebooks
  • Experience with Esri Solutions and Products
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to write reports that summarize spatial analyses and communicate findings with charts, tables, and narrative
  • Ability to serve as a GIS project leader including development of technical approach, scheduling, and quality assurance
  • Continuous technical currency
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
