Job summary

Terracon is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Staff Engineer for our Lombard, IL area. The role offers hybrid schedule options, growth toward project management, and client-facing responsibilities on transportation, infrastructure, and site-development projects.

You will lead field investigations, oversee reports, and mentor junior staff while coordinating with clients and design teams to deliver high‑quality geotechnical solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geological, Geotechnical Engineering.
• 3–5+ years of geotechnical engineering experience.
• Strong technical writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate subsurface exploration programs, drilling, field testing, and laboratory testing.
• Review boring logs, laboratory data, plans, specifications, and project requirements.
• Perform geotechnical analyses for foundations, pavements, earthwork, retaining structures, slopes, groundwater conditions, and related design issues.
• Prepare geotechnical reports, technical memoranda, proposals, scopes of work, and cost estimates.
• Support construction‑phase services, including field observation review, test data review, submittal review, and responses to construction questions.
• Communicate with clients, design teams, contractors, drilling crews, laboratories, and internal project teams.
• Coordinate with and mentoring junior engineers, field engineers, technicians, laboratory staff, and exploration teams.
• Follow Terracon’s safety, quality, and risk‑management practices.
