Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to support our growing Newport News, VA office. The role focuses on managing complex geotechnical projects and developing younger staff, with emphasis on construction materials testing during construction.

Qualified candidates will have deep experience in geotechnical engineering, strong reporting skills, and the ability to lead client communications and project budgets. ABET-accredited degree and 10+ years in consulting required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 10+ years of relevant professional experience in consulting geotechnical engineering.
• Experience performing construction materials field and laboratory testing to AASHTO, ASTM, VDOT and USACE standards.
• Ability to manage projects and communicate with clients.

Responsibilities

• Lead construction materials testing and Special Inspections for building and infrastructure projects with budget management and client communication.
• Develop proposals including scope of work and fee estimates for testing and inspections.
• Prepare reports on routine testing and evaluation of existing structures or materials.
• Interpret soil borings, geotechnical reports, and lab data to develop recommendations.
• Coordinate resources during construction phases and manage staff.
