Job summary

SOCOTEC US is seeking a Staff or Senior Staff Geotechnical Engineer or Geologist to support a broad range of geotechnical projects in a primarily in-office and field role in California. Responsibilities include investigations, analyses, construction observation, laboratory coordination, and report preparation.

The position requires a Civil/Geotechnical background with 1–3 years (staff) or 3+ years (senior staff) of geotechnical experience. Bay Area familiarity is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
• 1–3 years geotechnical experience for Staff; 3+ years for Senior Staff, preferably with a geotechnical firm.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics and subsurface investigation methods.
• Experience with field exploration, soil classification, geotechnical analyses, and report preparation.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical investigations and analyses for a range of projects (commercial, residential, industrial, public works).
• Plan and coordinate subsurface explorations, including drilling layouts and utility clearance.
• Oversee drilling operations and provide field direction to crews and subs1contractors.
• Prepare logs of borings, test pits, and cores; perform field observations and testing.
• Review plans, specifications, and geotechnical data; coordinate lab testing and evaluate results.
• Prepare geotechnical reports and engineering recommendations; collaborate with project teams.
