Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a skilled geotechnical/civil engineer to design excavation, foundations, dams, and geo-environmental projects. You will review designs for regulatory compliance, guide junior staff, and participate in client meetings to discuss current and future design needs.

Applicants should have a PE license, a Bachelor’s in geotechnical/civil/geologic engineering, and about 7 years of related experience, with travel up to 40% as required by workload and projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Civil, Mining or Geologic Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional engineering (PE) license.
• 7 years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
• The frequency of travel is contingent on duties and workload.

Responsibilities

• With general direction, creates excavation, dewatering, shallow/deep foundations, dams/reservoirs/levees, geo-environmental projects.
• Engineering designs of basic to high complexity to meet client project requirements.
• Reviews draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations and signs off on completed designs.
• Ensures that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
• Performs site reviews and studies to ensure designs align with location specifications.
• Updates design requirements as necessary.
• Performs soil sampling analyses and modeling.
• Contributes to firm's TKM by developing white papers and technical design documentation.
• Submits technical papers and designs for publishing to technical journals.
• Collaborates with sales staff to create proposals in response to current and potential client RFPs.
• Reviews draft proposals for adherence to regulations and best practices.
• Meets with current and potential future clients to review their design needs.
• Attends conferences to improve visibility of the firm's products and services.
