Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead major geotechnical projects in Charlotte, NC. You will guide subsurface investigations, design foundations and earth structures, and provide technical oversight across project teams.

You will mentor junior staff, develop client relationships, and contribute to business development while ensuring quality and compliance with codes and standards. This role requires NC-PE licensure and extensive field and office experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering required.
• 8-15+ years of progressive geotechnical experience are required.
• North Carolina Professional Engineer license is mandatory; South Carolina license must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Lead geotechnical investigations, including planning field exploration programs, laboratory testing, and site characterization.
• Analyze geotechnical data and prepare engineering reports, recommendations, and design calculations.
• Design and evaluate shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, embankments, slopes, pavements, and ground improvement solutions.
• Provide technical oversight and quality assurance for geotechnical projects.
• Review project specifications, drawings, and reports for accuracy and compliance.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, environmental, and construction teams throughout project development and execution.
• Manage project budgets, schedules, staffing, and client expectations.
• Conduct site visits and provide construction-phase consultation and observation services.
• Mentor and train junior engineers and technical staff.
• Support proposal preparation, client presentations, and business development activities.

The Senior Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for leading and managing geotechnical engineering projects, providing technical expertise in subsurface investigations, foundation design, earth retention systems, slope stability analysis, and construction support services. This role oversees project planning, execution, and quality control while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements. Education/Qualifications:

• Must of 8-15+ years of progressive experience
• Must have a North Carolina Professional Engineering License and obtain South Carolina within 90 days of hire.
