The Geotechnical Engineering Unit collects and analyzes subsurface information and provides geotechnical engineering designs and recommendations for roadways and structures. For more information, see the Geotechnical Engineering Unit Overview and Video.

Location

We are looking for a Senior Geotechnical Driller in our Asheville Office.

In This Position You Will

1. Serve as a member of a two-person subsurface investigation team.
2. Mobilize and operate rotary drilling rig to perform geotechnical testing and gather soil and rock samples.
3. Communicate subsurface conditions and changes to the attending Geologist or Engineer.
4. Perform light equipment maintenance.
5. Notify Supervisor for scheduling and delivery of equipment to maintenance shops for preventive maintenance and major repairs.

Qualifications

Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience demonstrating:

• Knowledge of procedures and practices of geotechnical drilling and sampling.
• Experience observing general field conditions and selecting appropriate drilling methods for data and sample collection.
• Experience operating various drilling machines for soil borings and rock coring to obtain high-quality samples.
• Ability to clearly communicate subsurface conditions to Geologists or Engineers.

Additional Expectations

Pre-employment drug testing will be required. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed.

Minimum Requirements

Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or related discipline from an accredited institution and three years of technician-level experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
