Qualifications

  • Knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles and soils.
  • Ability to travel throughout Alabama.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing Alabama team. In this role, you will lead geotechnical investigations, engineering analyses, and design efforts that support critical infrastructure, development, and construction projects across the region. You will collaborate with clients, project teams, and regulatory stakeholders to deliver practical, high-quality solutions while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and technical excellence. Core Responsibilities
  • Manage geotechnical projects, resources, and staff while providing technical leadership and ensuring compliance with engineering standards and project requirements.
  • Lead geotechnical investigations, analyses, and design efforts for a variety of infrastructure and building projects, including commercial developments, transportation facilities, pipelines, and other public and private sector projects.
  • Direct subsurface explorations, laboratory testing programs, geotechnical data evaluation, and instrumentation monitoring to support safe, high-quality, and cost-effective project delivery.
  • Oversee geotechnical engineering analyses, including:
    • Shallow and deep foundation design
    • Earthwork recommendations
    • Slope stability and seepage evaluations
    • Lateral earth pressure analyses
    • Other geotechnical assessments required to support project development
  • Provide geotechnical oversight during construction activities, including foundations, grading operations, utility trenching, and earthwork construction.
  • Collaborate with clients, project stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and government representatives to address geotechnical challenges and support project success.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers, geologists, and technical staff through training, guidance, and technical review.
  • Support business development efforts by maintaining client relationships, identifying new opportunities, and expanding geotechnical engineering services.
  • Participate in professional organizations and industry associations to maintain technical expertise and strengthen industry relationships.

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of geotechnical engineering experience, with emphasis on:
  • Geotechnical design and analysis
  • Geotechnical field investigations
  • Construction supervision
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Alabama
  • Local experience and familiarity with Alabama engineering practices
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Extensive knowledge of:
  • Geotechnical engineering principles
  • Soil and rock mechanics
  • Earthquake engineering
  • Groundwater hydrology
  • Experience overseeing foundation construction, pavement construction, and earthwork activities
  • Experience using geotechnical engineering software
  • Demonstrated ability to lead geotechnical projects and manage teams of geologists and geotechnical engineers
  • Ability to travel throughout Alabama to support project needs
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to pass background checks required for access to private and government facilities
