Job summary

Zoox is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Mapping Web team to own and advance core geospatial visualization libraries. You will extend rendering capabilities and strengthen architecture to support scalable features for internal map visualizations.

You will mentor engineers on geospatial rendering and React/deck.gl patterns, collaborating with Cartography and Simulation to deliver robust, high-performance visualization.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong expertise in React and modern TypeScript.
• Hands-on experience with deck.gl, Mapbox GL, MapLibre, or a comparable WebGL-based library.
• Strong knowledge of geospatial data concepts, including coordinate systems and tiling.

Responsibilities

• Own and extend our deck.gl-based map visualization library.
• Design and deliver new 2D and 3D rendering capabilities for geospatial data and road networks.
• Partner with Cartography and Simulation teams to translate visualization needs into scalable features.
• Improve rendering performance for large, complex map datasets.
• Elevate code quality, documentation, and test coverage while mentoring engineers on geospatial rendering and React/deck.gl patterns.
