Job summary

Dewberry Engineers Incorporated is seeking a Sr Geospatial Analyst / LiDAR Calibration Specialist to join our team in Tampa, FL or Fairfax, VA. Remote options will be considered based on experience and project needs.

You will work on GIS/Remote Sensing projects for state and federal clients nationwide, contributing to calibration, processing and QA/QC of LiDAR data. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in GIS/Remote Sensing, strong ESRI tooling knowledge, and hands-on LiDAR processing experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in the GIS/Remote Sensing field.
• Experience in LiDAR data extraction and/or swath alignment.
• Experience in LiDAR processing and elevation model creation/manipulation.
• In-depth knowledge of ESRI's software.
• Proficiency with TerraScan, TerraSolid or LiDAR tools; report writing and MS Office skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Calibrate and align LiDAR swaths; process airborne and mobile datasets.
• Quality check data post acquisition for point density and accuracy.
• Create digital mapping and remotely sensed products; manage databases.
• Develop scripts/macros across GIS/Lidar platforms; support QA/QC.
• Review post-processed LiDAR data for completeness and conformance to standards.

Responsibilities

• Position requires experience in sensor or swath calibration and alignment adjustment.
• Preferred experience using mainstream commercial software suites (Bayesmap StripAlign, TerraSolid Products) or adjustments in sensor vendor specific suites (Optech LMS, Riegl RiProcess).
• Strong conceptual understanding of sources of error in airborne lidar datasets and visualizing translation and orientation errors.
• Experience in alignment of terrestrial, mobile, UAV lidar datasets; experience in academic environments is desirable.
• Additional preferred experience includes airborne lidar trajectory processing (Applanix PosPac MMS, Novatel Inertial Explorer) and extracting lidar using sensor vendor specific processing suites (Riegl RiProcess, Optech LMS, Teledyne CARIS, GeoCue True View EVO).
• Strong understanding of aerial acquisition, GPS ground survey, and bathymetric calibration.
• Quality checks on data post acquisition.
• Airborne and/or mobile trajectory processing.
• Processing and extraction of LiDAR data from raw formats.
• Performing relative and absolute adjustments to LiDAR data (calibration/alignment/registration).
• Perform QA/QC on processed data to ensure it meets rigorous accuracy requirements.
• Review and validate post-processed LiDAR data sets for completeness and accuracy.
• Verify that data meets point density, spatial distribution, and classification requirements.
• Perform quality checks against project specifications, industry standards, and client guidelines.
• Assess point cloud characteristics including noise, gaps, overlap, and vertical/horizontal accuracy.
• Document QA/QC findings and communicate results to project managers and technical staff.
• Create a variety of digital mapping/remotely sensed products using various software platforms.
• Create and manipulate databases.
• Elevation data processing and manipulation.
• Lidar macro creation.
• Problem solving.
• Report writing.
• Creating scripts/models/macros in multiple GIS/Lidar platforms.

Required Skills & Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in the GIS/Remote Sensing field.
• Experience in either LiDAR data extraction and/or swath alignment.
• Required experience in LiDAR processing and elevation model creation/manipulation.
• In-depth knowledge of ESRI's software.
• Terrascan.
• PLTS toolkit experience is a plus.
• Proficiency in basic computer applications, especially MS Office (Word, Excel, and Access).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
