Trinity Consultants is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Geologist to join our geosciences team. The position will be located out of our Ventura, California office, which supports a broad range of projects across the firm's U.S. business footprint. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, project execution and management experience, and strong communication skills with the ability to independently develop scopes of work, manage project delivery, and prepare technical reports and regulatory submittals. The ideal candidate will possess the skills and experience to implement geologic investigations, mentor junior staff, and maintain client relationships while delivering customer-oriented solutions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical Oversight and Project Oversight
- Scope, budget, implement and direct surface and subsurface geologic and related projects using traditional practices and advanced technologies.
- Conduct thorough reviews of technical approaches for site assessments and studies, including geologic and mineral resource modeling, groundwater evaluations, well siting and design, and water quality monitoring.
The successful candidate will demonstrate technical expertise in several of the following areas:
- Brownfield site assessment and investigation covering soil, groundwater and soil vapor.
- General hydrogeology, water supply and aquifer testing.
- Water supply and monitor well siting, optimization, design and construction.
- CEQA/NEPA based baseline studies covering geology/soils, water resources, water quality, geohazards, and paleontological resources.
- Mineral deposit analysis and operational planning.
- S-K Subpart 1300 Qualified Person reserve and resource evaluation, or equivalent such as NI 43-101 technical reporting.
- Depositional basin modeling and characterization.
- Sedimentologic and stratigraphic analyses and interpretation.
- Geochemistry and analytical methods.
- Geophysical exploration methods and application.
Report Preparation, Data Analysis and Interpretation
- Coordinate and prepare technical reports, work plans, and technical memoranda; analyze and interpret data to develop supported conclusions and recommendations.
- Independently author, review, and quality-check technical reports, hydrogeologic evaluations, geologic investigations, and regulatory submittals.
- Evaluate and prepare work scopes, cost estimates and project schedules.
- Maintain a current understanding of regulations affecting clients and proactively identify new opportunities.
- Apply GIS and geospatial analysis tools to support data management, interpretation, visualization, and technical reporting.
Client Management and Team Development
- Foster and maintain relationships with existing clients and develop opportunities to solicit new project work.
- Effectively communicate project status to stakeholders through verbal and written updates.
- Mentor and train staff geologists, assisting with their professional development and participating in training initiatives.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated proficiency with ArcGIS Pro or equivalent GIS software for data management, spatial analysis, and map production.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard geological software packages. CAD experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated technical writing skills, including preparation of complex technical reports, work plans, and regulatory deliverables.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents and regulations; write detailed reports and business correspondence; and effectively present information to diverse audiences.
- Proficient in calculating figures and applying basic algebra and geometry concepts.
- Strong problem-solving skills, capable of interpreting complex data relationships and making informed decisions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Geology or Geoscience. Master's degree preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years of applied experience.
- Active California Professional Geologist (PG) license, or ability to obtain California licensure through comity/reciprocity within six months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct participation in mine site design, permitting, reclamation planning, water supply projects, and expertise in pertinent regulatory programs, including the California Surface Mining and Reclamation Act.
- Background in fracture flow hydrogeology and groundwater-rock interaction geochemistry.
- Experience with California environmental and water-resource regulatory programs, including DTSC, Regional Water Quality Control Boards, State Water Resources Control Board programs, CEQA, and local permitting requirements.
- Experience with mineral resource modeling programs, such as Leapfrog Geo, Maptek or Micromine is highly desired.
- Professional licensure (PG) in other states.
- Project management experience or certification.
- Proven history in client account management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This role will include supervisory responsibilities at a level that is dependent on the candidate's experience and expertise.
