Job summary

Berkley Edge (a Berkley Company) seeks a Senior Underwriter – General Casualty to manage an individual book of business and drive revenue growth in a fast-paced, dynamic environment in the United States. The role requires deep knowledge of General Liability, Habitational and Hospitality products, with emphasis on profitable pricing and risk assessment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years’ general casualty underwriting experience.
• Strong experience in Excess & Surplus Lines and Wholesale Brokerage Distribution.
• Experience writing primary commercial general liability (required).
• Professional designations such as CPCU, RPLU, ASLI, AU or other related designations (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Maintain contributory responsibility for General Casualty underwriting results, including revenue growth and profitability, for an individual book of business.
• Demonstrate broad knowledge of commercial insurance products, including Habitational and Hospitality General Liability.
• Apply underwriting expertise to support profitable growth, pricing strategies, and risk assessment across assigned territories or portfolios.
• Evaluate complex risks, coverage needs, emerging hazards, regulatory requirements, and market opportunities to deliver customer-focused solutions.
• Serve as a technical resource for coverage and pricing guidance within established authority levels.
• Develop and recommend product enhancements, underwriting policies, and operational improvements that align with business strategy and customer needs.
• Collaborate with brokers, agents, claims partners, and internal stakeholders to address trends, resolve issues, and identify growth opportunities.
• Build strong relationships and influence customers and broker partners through advanced negotiation and sales skills.
• Analyze underwriting, pricing, and claims data to identify exposures, assess rate adequacy, and develop effective risk management strategies.
• Collaborate with underwriting staff by providing training, technical guidance, and professional development support.
• Foster knowledge sharing, leverage internal and external resources, and promote innovative solutions and technological advancements.
