Job summary

Capital One seeks a Sr. Distinguished AI Engineer to help design and deploy scalable AI systems across the enterprise.

You will collaborate with engineers, researchers, PMs, and architects to advance our north star platform, defining canonical APIs for agent orchestration and strengthening guardrails for responsible AI. This role emphasizes automating agentic workflows, developing a GenAI SDK and tools, and reducing prototyping to production timelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or AI with extensive experience in AI/ML.
• At least 10 years of experience developing AI/ML algorithms or technologies; or a Master’s with at least 8 years.
• 10+ years programming with Python, Go, Scala, or Java.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional engineers, researchers, PMs, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products.
• Contribute to north star platform architecture, publishing living diagrams and APIs for agent orchestration and RAG pipelines.
• Evaluate agentic frameworks (LangGraph, AutoGen, Semantic Kernel, CrewAI, LlamaIndex) and blend patterns to meet SLAs.
• Develop end-to-end GenAI SDK, CLI and starter kits to accelerate production timelines by 30%.
• Help build central guardrail services (prompt firewalls, content-filter hooks, audit APIs).
• Collaborate to optimize orchestration, caching and tuning to reduce per-token spend; incubate PoCs and RFCs.
• Own Helm charts, operators and CRDs to scale agents to tenant SLAs.
• Coach and evangelize through architecture office hours, mentoring, docs and blogs; represent Capital One at AI conferences.
